5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Benhaddou - Ouarzazate
The 5 days tour from Marrakech starts from your accommodation in Marrakech after your breakfast’s time. Then drive through the amazing High Atlas Mountains and crossing the Tizi-N-Tichka pass 2260m, highest of Morocco.
We’ll have time to enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes and Berber villages before arriving at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. There, we’ll take a walking tour to learn about its history and how it became a popular filming location for many famous movies and TV series, including Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones…etc
The next stop will be Ouarzazate ‘The gate of the desert’. Here, we will visit the Atlas Studios, where various international movies were shot, the we head to the Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient fortified mud castle. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
Day 2: Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Merzouga Desert - Camel Trekking - Overnight in a Luxury Camp
Start your second day with a delicious breakfast at your hotel in Ouarzazate, then head toward the dunes of Merzouga. Your first stop will be in Agdz, where you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the palm groves and join the Draa Valley—the longest river in Morocco.
You’ll then continue through N’Kob, a small Berber town known for its spectacular kasbahs and as a gateway for treks through the Jebel Saghro Mountains toward Dades. Free time for lunch in Nkob or Alnif town.
After lunch, we continue to Merzouga Sahara via Rissani, a Saharan town that is considered the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty. It is well known for its traditional large market and one of the most important in southeastern Morocco, where many nomads come either for shopping or selling.
Heading moreover to our final destination, the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert, where you will take a camel trek to the camp, enjoying the sunset along the way over the dunes. Upon arrival, enjoy dinner followed by traditional Berber drum music around the campfire, and spend the night under a sky full of stars.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga area - Nomad family - Khamlia village - Erg Chebbi - Palm grove:
Today, we highly recommend you to wake up early to watch a quiet sunrise from your camp. After a delicious breakfast here, we will pick you up by a 4×4 vehicle to explore the region of Merzouga.
Firstly, we begin our journey with an off-road drive to visit an ancient eyeliner mine. Then, we continue to the area where local nomad families live. You’ll have the chance to learn about their way of life, and they will be happy to welcome you into one of their handmade woven tents to share a cup of traditional tea.
Our next destination is the Khamlia village, where we will listen to Gnaoua music played by the locals. Their origin is from sub-Saharan countries like Sudan, Mali, and Niger. Here, we have also free time for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can taste the famous Berber pizza.
After lunch, we will take a stroll through the palm grove in the village of Hassi Labied, then head to our traditional Riad for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Merzouga Sahara - Rissani - Erfoud - Todra Gorges - Dades Valley:
After breakfast, we leave the Merzouga desert towards Rissani town, the ancient capital of Tafilalet to visit its traditional market. The souk lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
After that, we drive to Erfoud, where we can visit one of the workshops of fossilized marble (optional). Then, our next destination will be Todra Gorges and its magnificent canyons, a hidden gem for rock climbers besides Todra.
Here, we will have the opportunity to marvel at a stunning oasis and historical Kasbahs. We will also have the chance to walk beneath the towering 300-meter cliffs of the Todra Gorge before proceeding to Dades Valley.
Pause for lunch en route, then continue to Boumalne Dades, a major town bridging the Dades River. We will stop at the ‘Monkey Fingers’ rock formation, and at a spot atop a mountain overlooking the Dades Valley. Finally, dinner and overnight in a riad.
Day 5: Dades Valley - Roses Valley - Palm Groves of Skoura - Amridil Kasbah - High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech:
Our final morning starts with a delicious breakfast at your riad. Then, we drive to Kalaa M’gouna to visit the Rose Valley, where a rose festival is held annually at the end of May. The locals offer their rose products, from perfumes and rose water to oils and other cosmetic items.
Afterwards, we drive along various kasbahs, including the Amridil Kasbah, which is surrounded by palm trees, where we will stop for a visit.
Later, we continue our journey to Marrakech, stopping in Ouarzazate for lunch. We then drive through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains.
