Program Itinerary of The 2 Days Desert Tour From Fes To Merzouga:
Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Middle Atlas - ZiZ Valley - Merzouga [470 km]
Departure from Fes early in the morning around 08:00 a.m. The first stop will be in Ifrane, known as “Little Switzerland” to enjoy the picturesque surroundings, then we continue our journey and pass through the cedar forests of Azrou, where you might have the chance to see Barbary macaques. From here we drive through beautiful Moroccan landscapes, including the Middle Atlas Mountains and small traditional villages.
Arrive in Midelt (also called the capital apple of Morocco) and have lunch at a local restaurant, then continue traveling over the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass and along the Ziz Valley (famous for its palm groves). We will have many stops along the way.
Arriving at Merzouga in the afternoon, you’ll meet your camel caravan to take you across the Erg Chebbi Dunes to your desert camp, get the opportunity to watch an orange Sunset from a high dune, and do a sandboarding activity. After a traditional dinner, you can sit around a campfire and experience Berber music under the starry desert sky.
Day 2: Merzouga - Rissani - Fes [500 km]
Today, an early morning wake-up is recommended to get an opportunity to watch a spectacular and glorious Sunrise. Before you camel trek back to the departure point where you will meet your driver/guide, you will enjoy a tasty breakfast served by friendly Berber people at the Merzouga desert camp.
On your way back to Fes, you’ll pass through the town of Rissani (the foundation of the current ruling family) and discover the traditional Moroccan market if today is a market day (Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). Then, travel back to Fez via Erfoud, Aoufous, and along the Ziz Valley again. End of your Fes desert trip 2 days by dropping you off at your Riad in Fes.
